The introduction of quality indicators into the workflow of public cord blood banks in the Russian Federation

It is important to standardize hematopoietic stem cell storage, processing, and separation procedures in the public cord blood (CB) banks and to monitor controlling parameters.

The aim of this work is the development and introduction of CB storage, processing, and separation quality indicators.

Materials and methods:
quality indicators were developed according to international standard ISO 9001:2008. Efficiency was estimated at the Samara public CB bank using 6000 samples.

The following quality indicators were introduced.

Government contract volume indicators

(Target value is 100%)

Storage and processing quality indicators

(Target value is 15%)

(Target value is 10%)

(Target value is 75%)

(Target value is 85%)

Integral index of efficiency storage and processing of cord blood

(Target value is 100%)

The integral index of efficiency of the Samara CB bank in the year 2010 is 90%.

Discussion: The introduction of quality indicators at the Samara CB bank promotes an increase in manageability and control of the production processes and quality of stored CB samples.
