The dynamics of immunoregulatory T cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Abstract
CD3+/CD16/56+ NKT cells play a key role in the regulation of antitumoral immune response. Naturally occurring regulatory T cells (CD4+/CD25+,Treg) suppress the activity of effector T cells and promote tumor growth.
Aim: To investigate the dynamics of immunoregulatory T cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Methods: We examined 48 patients with primary CLL (1st group), 79 patients in remission (2nd group), and 88 patients with relapse of the disease (3rd group). We studied fractions of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and bone marrow cells. We identified the immunological phenotype of lymphocytes via flow cytometry (Beckman Coulter FC500) with the usage of monoclonal antibodies (Beckman Coulter, USA.)
The results are shown in the table of relative content of immunoregulatory T-lymphocytes in peripheral blood and bone marrow in patients with CLL% (shown M±SD).

Conclusion: According to our data, attainment of remission is accompanied by an increase in NKT cells and naturally occurring regulatory T cells both in peripheral blood and bone marrow. In patients with relapse of the disease the level of NKT cells decreases in both fractions, whereas the level of naturally occurring regulatory T cells increases in peripheral blood and decreases in bone marrow.
